Ways to Give

A philanthropic gift to the general operations of our school helps us fulfill our mission and maneuver funds as needed to empower our students and sustain our school. Supporters can commit to one year or multi-year contributions.

Through Pennsylvania’s Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) and Opportunity Scholarship Tax Credit (OSTC) Programs, individuals can redirect their Pennsylvania tax dollars to support scholarships for students at Cristo Rey Philadelphia High School. In addition to helping make a Cristo Rey education affordable and accessible to students from underserved communities, you receive a 90% tax credit against your personal Pennsylvania state tax liability.

Individuals wishing to participate in the EITC and OSTC programs may become a member of the Cristo Rey Philadelphia Scholarship #1 LLC, a special purpose limited liability company established to provide need-based scholarships. Special Purpose Entities are the only financial vehicle available for individuals (or companies who do not have direct tax credit approval) to be able to realize tax credits in return for scholarship donations.

To join, individuals or legal entities make a two-year commitment at a minimum of $5,000 per year to fund the LLC. The first contribution of the two-year commitment is due at signing. The second-year commitment is due the following year.

Donors can provide a scholarship that covers the cost of our education experience, that is not covered by a students’ participation in Work Study and their family contribution. This program includes opportunities to meaningfully engage with the students throughout their journey at Cristo Rey. 

Partners choose to either:

• Pledge $20,000 payable over four years to support a student with a scholarship throughout their time at Cristo Rey Philadelphia
• Provide $5,000 for a one-year student scholarship
• Add a $2,500 commitment to the Horizons Scholarship Partners Program (Horizons at Cristo Rey is a tuition-free, high-quality extension of the Cristo Rey mission to advance educational opportunity. Our goal is to prepare children from the Nicetown-Tioga neighborhood for success, whether at Cristo Rey Philadelphia High School or another top-tier high school in the city.)

A gift of stock enables you to have a profound impact on Cristo Rey Philadelphia High School, while maximizing your charitable deduction and minimizing your tax liability. Any gain in long-term appreciated assets are fully subject to capital gains tax if you sell them yourself, but not if you donate them to our school. Your charitable income tax deduction is equal to the fair market value of the stock, and you avoid paying the capital gains tax on any increase in the current value over the original cost of the stock. If you give to the United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey, you can designate your gift to Cristo Rey via Donor Choice #50081. For gifts via other United Way chapters, write Cristo Rey Philadelphia's name and address on the pledge form. Cristo Rey Philadelphia's Combined Federal Campaign number is 46313.
